Matt Pinfield Bio

Matt Pinfield is at the forefront of rock music authorities today. Always considered a flavor-maker by music industry heavyweights and rock stars alike, Matt is recognized as “The Rock and Roll Encyclopdia.”

Matt got his start in the music industry as the youngest DJ at Rutgers’ Radio station WRSU at just sixteen-years of age. Throughout his college career, Matt worked with the station and eventually became Music Director. All the while, Matt DJ’d at popular New Brunswick club The Melody Bar, where bands like The Wonder Stuff, Ned’s Atomic Dustbin, and others met and became quite fond of Matt and his musical taste.

Subsequently, Matt landed a job as radio DJ at New Jersey’s commercial rock station WHTG. Matt was highly influential at WHTG, pushing development as one of the nation’s first commercial modern rock stations. He was promoted to Program Director, and recipient of two consecutive Gavin Awards for “National Commercial Alternative Music Director of the Year.”

Matt soon moved to television as a host on MTV shows. Shortly thereafter, Matt’s musical taste and uncanny knowledge helped him acquire the title Director of Music Programming for the network. He was host of dozens of popular music shows such as, MTV’s “120 Minutes,” VH1’s “Top 20 Countdown,” HDnet’s “Soundoff With Matt Pinfield,” “Mattrock,” “Pinfield Suite,” “Pinfield Presents,” “Rocks Off,” “Say What,” “MTV Live,” and more than 100 MTV specials. Matt’s wealth of musical knowledge didn’t go unnoticed- MTV’s popular daily countdown show “Total Request Live (TRL)” featured a segment entitled “Stump Matt,” in which Matt faced obscure music questions from audience members; almost always proving his knowledge with great accuracy.

Columbia Records sought out Matt Pinfield and titled him VP of A&R and Artist Developement, where he developed Coheed & Cambria and Crossfade, whose records were certified Gold and Platinum respectively.

Making his return to radio in 2008, Matt signed on as the morning drive DJ on New York station WRXP’s Rock Show. As WRXP was the newst station on New York block, Matt was instrumental in the success of the station’s infancy, with segments like, “Play Matt’s iPod,” the radio revival of “Stump Matt,” “Local licks,” and other station DJs continually plugging Matt’s show.

Matt is continually sought out by musicians because of his wealth of musical knowledge and comfortable and entertaining interview style. In 2005 the Rolling Stones were interviewed together for the first time in 35 years, and they chose Matt Pinfield. He hosts world premieres for the industry’s top rock acts, like Incubus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, U2, and others.

In 2011 Matt made his return to MTV as host on “120 Minutes”, where he remains one of the most highly regarded personalities in the music and entertainment industry.
